Suzanne Carter |
Dr. Suzanne Carter, Director of Exceptional Education for Walton
County Schools, will continue the forward movement of G-CASE if
elected G-CASE Vice President. She promises to collaborate with
the current G-CASE leadership to keep the steps in motion as
outlined in the strategic plan and to build her own capacity to be
ready to take the helm in two years. In 1974, she became actively
involved with the CEC Suncoast Chapter in Pinellas County, Florida
over an eight year period during which her chapter received the
“Chapter of Excellence” award. Executive board experience
includes her recent election as G-CASE Secretary, preceded by two
years as G-CASE District 5 Representative, and five years as
treasurer for the GAESP 10th District as well as
treasurer for GA CEC for the past three years. Suzanne received
the Outstanding Administrator Award from the Georgia Federation
Council for Exceptional Children in 1999. Professional
memberships include CASE and G-CASE, CEC Pioneers, Georgia CEC,
CEC Chapter 606, GAEL, GAGC, GACIS and GAESP. Dr. Carter’s
dedication to children and make-it happen persistence has been
obvious throughout her personal and professional life. She is
ready to continue to serve G-CASE in this new capacity as Vice
President.

I have just
completed my 31st year as a special educator. My work in special
education has included the classroom from grades K -12, serving a
metro district as a diagnostician, a consultant, a coordinator,
and serving a rural district as a Director of Special Education. I
have also been afforded the opportunity to work at the GADOE as a
program specialist and program manager. My work has focused
primarily on advocating for the needs of students with
disabilities, the promotion of inclusive climates for our
students, and improving the policies and practices that relate to
special education services. I continually provide leadership in
professional learning activities that promote evidence-based best
practices in special education. As Vice President of G-CASE, I
would be afforded the opportunity to serve a broader spectrum of
professionals who touch the lives of students with disabilities.

In these tough economic times, we need an
organization that is committed to working to provide quality staff
development, a strong voice “Under the Gold Dome”, and support for
special education leaders. Please consider allowing me to serve
you in G-CASE! I believe that involvement in our professional
organization is essential to the strength of profession. This is
my 19th year in special education. I have in served
many different special education positions and currently serve as
the Director of Instructional Support Services for Murray County
Schools. My experience in both the Metro Atlanta area as well as
rural Murray County gives me a perspective of the struggles and
challenges of both the large and small school systems.
Educationally, I hold degrees in SLD, EBD
and Leadership. Currently, I am writing my dissertation in the
doctoral program at Northcentral University.
I have committed my entire career to
special education and I can’t imagine doing anything else. Please
consider me to represent your interests in G-CASE!
Thank you!

G-CASE has definitely grown as an organization. We are at the
table and have a voice that is heard in many arenas. We have big
plans to continue to support our members and to increase our
audience and I will be honored to work in any way I can to help us
reach this vision. While we need to continue strengthening and
perfecting our voice, we also need to celebrate our successes. We
need laughter, especially in our chosen profession! And no one but
other special education administrators quiet understands our
humor. If elected as your Vice-President of G-CASE, I will make
sure we increase our shared laughter and fun as I work to fulfill
our organization’s aspirations. I would greatly appreciate your
vote.
